RSA Stamps
The campaign topic for these stamps is genetic modification. In my preliminary research I found out about the use of transgenic food, a procedure I find particularly disturbing. I found several examples of this from both scientific laboratories and in existing supermarket food.
My designs focus on four examples of transgenic food, they aim to bring awareness of food that would never have come together or evolved naturally. The design imitates the natural human fertilisation process, at the point when the sperm reaches the egg.
DNA combinations - Simplified transgenic food equations used in the designs
Tomato + red fish (gene) = red tomatoes
Tomato + flounders (gene) = tomatoes that can be grown in winter
Lettuce + rat (gene) = lettuce with enhanced taste
Cabbage + scorpion (gene) = cabbage that kills caterpillars
Pig + spinach (gene) = low fat pork
